“I” - The Hive

A hand-crafted three-dimensional letterform that reflects the unique features of the architectural design and visual identity of The Hive.

The design of letter “I” takes inspiration from the curved and layered structure of the hive. A single intervention is repeated and refined throughout the letterform to give weight to it’s structure. The curves are further contrasted by a smooth and polished finish, and sharp edges.

The Hive, formally known as Learning Hub South, is a building located in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The building was designed by Thomas Heatherwick and completed in 2015. The building is dubbed the "dim sum building” due to its resemblance to steamer baskets used to contain dim sum.
